Some First World War Research Findings!

Trench watch that belonged to
Private Percy Mercer of the
Royal Newfoundland Regiment.
Hi everyone! Big things coming up! We can't give any details just yet, but today I thought I'd share something extremely cool that I've come across in my research over the past little while. Pictured here is a Trench watch that belonged to Percy Mercer of Bay Roberts, NL, who died on the Western Front at Monchy-le-Preux in 1914. Over the years since 1914, this watch came into the possession of a very avid First World War collector, who also happens to be a board member here at the museum. Trench watches became popular during the First World War because soldiers needed something that was a hybrid of a wrist watch and a pocket watch, and thus the Trench watch was made. This particular watch is in excellent condition, and we're looking forward to letting you know how you may or may not be able to sneak a peek at it in the near future!

Make sure you’re following us on Twitter and Instagram, (@AdmiraltyMuseum), and on Facebook because, there will be lots more coming up about our big plans as the announcement gets closer. For now, we’ve still got some planning and designing to do, but, very soon, we'll be able to let you in on the secret. So stay tuned and thanks for checking in!
