Meet Cassidy - Admiralty House's Museum Interpreter!

Hi, my name is Cassidy and I am a summer student here at Admiralty House. In this post, I am going to tell you a little bit about myself and what I am going to be doing this summer at the museum. I started my position at the end of June and will be at the museum until the end of August. In the eight weeks that I am here, I am excited for all the fun activities that we have planned and the groups that we have visiting the museum.

So, to start I will tell you all a little bit about myself. I was raised in Mount Pearl and went to O’Donel High School, where I completed the late French immersion program. Currently, I am attending Memorial University and am going into my second year of the Bachelor of Commerce program. I also danced at Revolutions Dance in Mount Pearl for 13 years where I had the opportunity to dance in parades in Mount Pearl, St. John’s, and Disney World.

My position here at the museum is Museum Interpreter, which means that I will be welcoming visitors and giving tours of the museum. There are many interesting facts that I have learned about the City of Mount Pearl while learning the tour and reading the museum panels such as, Admiralty House was a top-secret wireless station during World War One and that the first transatlantic flight took off from Mount Pearl. These are some major events which happened in Mount Pearl that I was unaware of until I started working at the museum and giving tours. Also, I will be helping with the Summer Camps that come into the museum along with the drop-in programs for kids. With Summer Camps we give them a tour of the museum and then we complete a fun craft. We are going to see a lot of these groups during the summer and I am looking forward to them coming. Similarly, with the drop-in programs we have a craft like sea creatures with paper plates or Morse code art. These programs are an opportunity to teach kids about the history of the museum, but also to have fun and make a craft. These are my main tasks here at the museum and I am looking forward to the rest of the summer.

Thanks for reading!

Cassidy
