Whaaat? Two blog posts in one day? Yup, you've got that right. Big day here at Admiralty House! The reason for today's double post is our very first podcast episode that is airing TODAY!!!! It has been a long time in the making, (well, at least a month), but we're finally ready and today is the day! I couldn't be more excited, as you can probably tell.
Our first episode of Pigeon Post is about Tom Kane, a resident of Renews who was among the first on the scene when the Florizel went aground in Cappahayden in 1918. No stranger to the sea, Tom and his friends assisted in the recovery of bodies that had perished aboard the vessel.
When conducting research and collecting information in the early stages of the Faces of the Florizel, the museum staff was very fortunate to come into contact with Lynn McShane, who happens to be the granddaughter of Tom Kane from Renews. Having always had an interest in her grandfather's experience with the wreck of the Florizel, Lynn sat down and interviewed him and from old transcripts of that interview, she recreated the audio by using the voice of her uncle, Eugene Kane.
Our first ever episode of Pigeon Post is that interview, recorded by Lynn McShane and featuring her uncle Eugene reading the part of Tom Kane. Lynn has been so helpful and encouraging throughout the course of the exhibit and we are still so grateful for all of the material she provided us, including this photo of Tom in 1914:
So, thanks to Lynn, I invite you to sit back, relax, and, if you didn't catch our broadcast on 92.3 CICQ Tourism Radio, click the link below to listen online.
Thanks for tuning in!
Lauren
