Obscure Labrador Stations

Duncan Amos Collection

Marconi stations in Newfoundland and Labrador are an under-researched topic, and our project here at Admiralty House is one of the first projects looking at them specifically. An unfortunate fact about Newfoundland historical research is that there are less sources and less interest in Labrador. We only have detailed information about a few Labrador Marconi stations, even though Labrador had more stations than Newfoundland. Of the ten stations located in and off the coast of Labrador, we know the most about Belle Isle and Battle Harbour. However, there are eight more that we know of, and possibly some that we don’t that there is very limited information on. Even better, if there are any stations we might have missed, let us know.

Stations we’d like to hear about:

  • American Tickle

  • Domino

  • Grady

  • Holton

  • Indian Harbour

  • Makkovik

  • Smokey Tickle

  • Venison Island

We’re looking for personal stories, pictures, and primary or secondary documents, so if you’d like to contribute to making history, feel free to comment or contact us on social media.

  1. I was given a shingle from the roof of the Marconi, Grady site on August 30, 2023. It would be wonderful if the site could have an historical marker.
