Activity Time: Porthole Art

Are you getting tired of looking out your window and seeing the same thing every single day? We are here to help!

Porthole (noun)
port·hole | \ ˈpȯrt-ˌhōl

An opening (such as a window)
with a cover or closure especially
in the side of a ship or aircraft.
-   Merriam Webster Dictionary

Today we are going to create your very own porthole! When you look through your porthole you can see far off lands, shining seas, pirate ships, icebergs, underwater, or even outer space! Wherever your heart takes you, your porthole can show you!

Things you will need:
Paint or Pencil Crayons or Crayons
Paint Brushes
Two Paper Plates
Scissors
Glue
Construction Paper

Instructions:

1. Brainstorm! What will you see outside of your porthole? The ocean? Another boat? Underwater?

2. Take the first paper plate and leave it face up. Paint or draw or colour your design on the plate.

3. Wait for the paint to dry!

4. Use construction paper and pens to add details.  You can add birds in the sky, the sun or another boat in the distance!

5. Take the second paper plate. Cut out the center to make the porthole cover.

6. Decorate your porthole cover!

7. Put the two paper plates together. The painted one should sit like a normal plate, and the porthole cover should be placed as if it is an upside-down plate.

8. Glue or staple the two plates together to make your completed porthole!
