This Thursday, August 2 at 7:00 pm, we are so, so, SO excited to be hosting a concert by Jenny Gear and Sandy Morris at The Annex, right next door. Tickets are $30 and that includes your admission, as well as some hot h'ors d'oeuvres courtesy of our friends at Coffee Matters. Being a community organization, we know how important it is to partner with other organizations, and the folks at Coffee Matters have made that very easy by being so willing and excited to work together! There will be partridgeberry chilli meatballs, mini salted cod cakes, mini tea sandwiches, and mini quiche Florentine. We've got the food, so we need to have the drink, too, right? Right! And that's why there will also be a cash bar where you can purchase wine and beer to accompany your snacks!

Born in Carbonear in 1982, Jenny Gear got her start in 2003 on the inaugural season of CTV's Canadian Idol. Right from the get-go Jenny blew the judges away and her audition which consisted of her singing "God Bless the Child" left them speechless and in tears.
"Do you have any idea how good you are?" Those were the first words out of Canadian Idol judge Jake Gold's mouth when Jenny finished singing. She modestly responded that it was simply who she was, but Jake insisted that she was "world-class talent." From that moment on, Jenny would continue to wow the judges and audience alike with her unique take on a different song week in and week out.
On August 26, just weeks before the finale when the winner of Canadian Idol would be announced, Canada was shocked to see Jenny eliminated, but that didn't stop her. 15 years later, she is still an incredible, creative, extremely talented musician, and we couldn't be happier to be welcoming her here next week.
And that's only half of it!
Joining Jenny on stage will be very well-known Newfoundland musician Sandy Morris. Having just celebrated his 70th birthday this past week, it's not too much to assume that Sandy Morris has been a prominent figure in Newfoundland's music scene for quite some time, and it doesn't seem like he plans on slowing down anytime soon!
For over 50 years, Sandy Morris has been making himself known in Newfoundland as an accomplished and talented musician. In his university years, he and some friends would perform under the name Philadelphia Cream Cheese Band and after that he joined a group called Garrison Hill, which quickly became a success.
With a gig booked just about every night, Sandy decided that, in 1970, he would move to London, England, to try and enter the music scene there. After joining some other Newfoundlanders and calling themselves Lukey's Boat at first, and then Figgy Duff, Sandy eventually came back to the Rock, and thank goodness he did!
From his days in the Wonderful Grand Band to now, Sandy has accomplished so much as a musician, which is why it should come as no surprise that, in 2016, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from Music NL. If you've ever watched Land & Sea, (and I mean, come on, who hasn't?) you'll know at least one of the gems that Sandy has produced over the years, and if you're interested in hearing more, we sure hope to see you on Thursday night at 7, for what is sure to be a wonderful night of beautiful music.

Thanks for checking in, and I hope everyone has a great week!
Lauren
