Memory Mug Up at Admiralty House: July 18th

Hello, all! Emily here again to tell you a bit more about my summer assignment!

As mentioned in my introduction, I’ve been tasked with creating a booklet for the Admiralty House that we hope to launch at the end of August, after which it will be available in the museum’s gift shop. This booklet aims to encapsulate what makes Mount Pearl the wonderful community that it is by preserving the memories of the people within it.

Since starting at the museum a week ago, I’ve been conducting my own research -- consulting the museum exhibits, tracking trends in the city’s Historic Places Initiative, as well as looking for inspiration and guidance through the Heritage Foundation’s Oral History Roadshow series and their Collective Memories series. Both collections have been incredibly helpful and thought-provoking thus far.

On top of that, just last week myself and some other staff members at the museum met with the Heritage Foundation’s Dale Jarvis, who has contributed plenty to both of these collections, for some tips and tricks on how best to approach the project.

Through that meeting, we have decided to host what is known as a Memory Mug Up! In short, a Memory Mug Up is a story sharing session over tea and snacks, where we invite any and all members of the community to come out and share their Mount Pearl experiences and memories with us.

The event will be held at the museum at 365 Old Placentia Road, Mount Pearl on Wednesday, July 18th from 10 am to 11 am. Join us to chat, eat to snacks and explore the museum.We hope to see you there!
