Today Sarah went to Long & McQuade to purchase a handheld recorder that will be used for our podcast and the oral histories we plan on doing. After several jokes about starting a YouTube channel to "unbox" our Long & McQuade "haul," which, by the way, was only two boxes, we actually got serious (for a second), long enough to examine both the recorder itself and the accessories pack that Sarah bought to accompany it. The recorder came with an SD card and some batteries, and the accessories pack contained a remote for toggling the recorder from further away, a tripod, a handle attachment, and a charging cable. It's not very big but from what I can tell, this little machine is a pretty nifty recorder and I'm all too excited to put meat on the bones of our podcast by bringing the written pages of content to life.
I'm also excited because next week, the museum is sending me to another workshop of Dale Jarvis' all about recording equipment, and now that I've got the one I'll be using, I know that I will leave that workshop with more than one or two helpful hints and tricks. Not only will I be learning about the recorder itself, but also what goes into a good recording, no matter what hardware you might be using.
This coming Thursday, we're also taking a trip to the studios of CHMR to record our podcast's intro, and after that I imagine we'll waste no time getting down to recording. Unfortunately for us, but for the overall wellbeing of the general public, Sarah and I decided against our YouTube unboxing. While we spent at least 15 minutes riddling off jokes that kept the theme going, we also came to the conclusion that we were the only people that would find it funny. But so you still get a sneak peek of the snazzy voice recorder we'll be using, here's a picture so you can see what it's all about.
Until next time!
Lauren
